9     <p>Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth
10     on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and
11     dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
12     Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing
13     whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so
14     dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-
15     field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of
16     that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave
17     their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether
18     fitting and proper that we should do this.
19     But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate...we cannot
20     consecrate...we cannot hallow...this ground. The brave men,
21     living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it
22     far above our poor power to add or detract. The world
23     will little note nor long remember what we say here, but
24     it can never forget what they did here. It is for us, the
25     living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished
26     work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly
27     advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the
28     great task remaining before us...that from these honored
29     dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which
30     they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here
31     highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain;
32     that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of
33     freedom; and that government of the people, by the people,
34     for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
